Restoration of oil paintings is a very skilled part of our operation in Leamington Spa. We have carried out many Picture Restoration projects over the years. Larger more damaged paintings may take longer to restore. The varnish on Oil Paintings usually discolours or oxidizes. This especially occurs with old oil paintings that have been hung over fireplaces or in polluted conditions. The Picture can be cleaned, oil replaced and Restored to former its glory. Sagging Oil paintings that are stretched on bars may also be retensioned when being cleaned.
If the Painting is torn, or the canvas is ripped, it may need patching or Re-lining. This will also be discussed at the Gallery in Leamington Spa. If you see evidence of discoloration, brown dots (foxing), small insects under the glass. Perhaps the Picture Frame is not looking its best. A Gentle Clean
You may dust frames or brush with a soft brush but never apply liquids especially to the painting, again just gently dust with a brush.
